It was an absolutely beautiful morning. Heading north out of Gunnison you could see the dark ribs of the mountain tops peeking out of their snow cover. The mountains when the look like this are every bit as lovely as mountains completely covered with snow. Since I was doing the one day loop, which doesn’t have nearly so many riders as the week long ride and a bit different route, for the first 15 miles I had the road virtually to myself on this sunny Sunday morning.
A bit of a letdown occurred when I turned the corner for Jack’s Cabin where after a mile the road was no longer paved, but was a combination of hard packed dirt and gravel. Going up this wasn’t too bad, but then we had to go down a steep face still on gravel. Frankly, I was glad to get off that and back on pavement.

I really enjoyed the road up to Taylor Reservoir. I had never ridden on this road before. The Taylor River was flowing fast beside the road and was beautiful to watch with the mountains in the background. After reaching the rest stop at the reservoir and turning around to go back down the scenery was sill captivating, except for the last 10 miles into Gunnison. However, the action at the headquarters in Gunnison was cooking.

All in all a great day of riding.
